Day 12 & 13 Lake King to Esperence

Headed off this morning and arrived at Ravensthorpe which is on the South Coast Highway.  We refuelled here and diesel was 154.9 cents per litre.  A turn right and we were on our way to Esperence.

Esperence has a population of 10,500 and was the principal port for the goldfields.  The archipeligo comprises of 110 islands and approximately 1500 islets and Esperence is known as the Bay of Isles with Australia's whitest beaches.  Agriculture is the leading industry with tourism and fishing also playing important roles.

We were lucky enough to get  a site with views of the ocean at the Esperence Seafront Caravan Park and we booked in for two nights.  We went to town and got some groceries and went for a drive.  Next morning I was up early again so decided to go for a walk along the beach.  I left at 6:30am and ending up walking for over 5kms and got back at 8:15am.  There is a lovely walk path along the beach and at one point I walked down onto the beach and walked along the edge of the waves.

Peter decided to wash the caravan (you are allowed to do it on your site at this park) to try and get the red dirt off.  After that we went down to the Tourist Information Centre and got some brochures.  We then went to have a look at the Pink Lake but it was very overcast so it was more grey than pink, a bit disappointing.  Then we went on the Great Ocean Drive which had spectacular views similar to the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.  We had a walk around the wharf and drove around the other parts of town that we hadn't yet seen.  We refuelled and diesel was 150.5 cents per litre.
