Day 37 Coral Bay to Exmouth - 5/4/11

It was sad to leave Coral Bay, we had the best time here (apart from the grasshoppers!) but it is definitely on the "must come back to" list.

First thing we noticed on the drive to Exmouth was the number of termite nests.  They are quite different to the ones in the Northern Territory and look like someone has just tipped buckets of mud on top of one another.  They are quite big too some two metres and bigger.

Driving into Exmouth

As we drove into Exmouth we passed a new development.  All the houses are made of steel and corrugated iron, even the roof trusses so the termites must be a big problem.  We have also noticed in several towns now that the houses don't have any guttering.  Not sure why that is as you would think they would be collecting their rain water in these dry areas.

We booked into the Cape Holiday Park for two nights.

Once set up we went to the shops to get some groceries.  The shops are all in the one area with a small "mall" type area.  We were surprised to find two IGA stores diagonally opposite each other.  We asked one of the other shopkeepers what the go was and she said that both stores are owned by the same people but the prices are different - go figure!

Will be exploring the area tomorrow.

cheers
Pete and Roz
